当時、科学の新しい学問であった量子力学。
湯川・朝永はお互いに切磋琢磨しながらこの新しい学問研究に没頭し
現代物理学の礎を築きあげました。

本研究室は、1943年に湯川秀樹が「第五講座」としてひらいた研究室です。
1963年からは「素粒子論講座」と呼ばれるようになりました。

Quantum mechanics was a new scientific discipline at the time.
Yukawa and Tomonaga immersed themselves in this new academic research while engaging in friendly competition with each other. The foundation of modern physics was laid.

Our group was established by Hideki Yukawa in 1943, and since 1963, it has been called the "Theoretical particle physics group.”

1973年には、本研究室の「お茶部屋」で、小林誠と益川敏英による小林・益川理論が書き下されました。

その後も、たくさんの若き研究者が
京都大学で素粒子論研究を発展させ、幾多もの偉大な業績を残しています。

多くの先輩方によって築かれた素粒子論研究の豊かな土壌の上で、
新たな理論を生み出す自由で活発な精神風土が、現在の研究室に受け継がれています。

In 1973, the Kobayashi-Maskawa theory was written by Makoto Kobayashi and Toshihide Maskawa in the "tea room" of our group.

Since then, many young researchers have developed particle theory research at Kyoto University and have made great achievements.

On the basis of the rich philosophy of particle theory research established by many of our predecessors, the free and active mental climate for creating new theories has been passed down to the present group.
